Darian DeVries has Indiana gaining ground in race for coveted 5-star prospect

Darian DeVries has brought in a promising 2026 recruiting class that features a trio of 4-star prospects in Vaughn Karvala, Prince-Alexaner Moody, and Trevor Manhertz. All put forth impressive performances in the FISU America Games earlier this summer, and all could be poised to contribute in the upcoming season.

As DeVries continues to build momentum on the recruiting trail, Nasir Anderson is a name that Indiana basketball fans need to get familiar with. Anderson is a 6'3" 220-pound point guard from Savannah, GA, and he is one of the most coveted prospects in the 2027 recruiting cycle. Specifically, he is ranked as the No. 2 point guard and the No. 7 overall player in the country by Rivals.

Anderson's recruitment process is heating up in a major way, as he has now moved forward with his list of contenders. Over the weekend, Anderson cut his list down to 10 schools.

To the delight of Hoosier basketball fans, Indiana is included among Anderson's list of final contenders. Along with the Cream and Crimson, Anderson's group of finalists includes Kentucky, North Carolina, UConn, Providence, Syracuse, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia.

The next step in Anderson's recruiting process is to get official visits scheduled for the fall. He hasn't announced any official visit dates just yet, but those should be coming sooner rather than later.

After playing for Norcross High School during his sophomore season, Anderson transferred to Prolific Prep in Fort Lauderdale, FL for his upcoming junior season. Owning a 6'3" 220-pound frame, Anderson suffered a hip injury earlier this summer. As he continues working to be at full strength for his pivotal junior season, Anderson has a chance to become DeVries' first 5-star high school commit at Indiana.

It goes without saying that DeVries could use a big recruiting win. He posted an overall record of 18-14 with a 9-11 mark in Big Ten play in his first season in Bloomington, and led the Hoosiers to a disappointing 1-6 stretch to close out the season. Indiana missed the NCAA Tournament as a part of a bubble field that was among the worst in recent memory, giving IU hoops fans even more frustration.

As DeVries looks to keep building Indiana's future recruiting classes, securing a recruit of Anderson's caliber would go a long way. Furthermore, beating out some premier recruiting blue bloods in doing so would be rather satisfying to see. With names like Kentucky, North Carolina, and UConn in the mix, DeVries certainly has his work cut out for him.

The Florida Gators are a team to watch in this 5-star chase, as Anderson's move from Savanah, GA to Prolific Prep in Fort Lauderdale puts him even closer to Gainesville. The Gators have been a powerhouse under head coach Todd Golden, and are just two seasons removed from winning a National Championship.
