With spring practice complete, Curt Cignetti and the Indiana Hoosiers have turned a lot of their focus to the recruiting trail over the last few weeks. Cignetti has the Hoosiers locked in tight recruiting battles with several highly-touted prospects, and April was a big month for those recruiting efforts.

Several top targets took official visits to Bloomington in April, giving the Hoosiers plenty of recruiting momentum for multiple targets. Among the prospects visiting Indiana last month was 4-star LB Roman Igwebuike. The 6'3" 220-pound defensive star has been on Indiana's radar for a while, and he appears to be very interested in donning the cream and crimson for his college football career.

In fact, Igwebuike officially has Indiana firmly in his list of contenders as his recruiting process continues to move forward.

Indiana cracks list of top-5 finalists for 4-star LB Roman Igwebuike

On Thursday, Rivals' Hayes Fawcett reported that Igwebuike is down to five schools, and Hoosier fans are fired up to see Indiana listed among that group. Along with Indiana, the Chicago native is still deciding between Clemson, Missouri, Notre Dame, and Tennessee.

Per Rivals, Igwebuike is ranked as the No. 1 linebacker in the state of Illinois. Furthermore, 247Sports has him listed as the No. 9 overall player in the state and as the No. 14 linebacker in the 2027 recruiting class.

Indiana's 2027 recruiting class currently features four players, and just one plays on the defensive side of the ball. Garyon Hobbs, a 3-star LB from Louisville, is the lone defensive player in IU' 52nd-ranked 2027 class at this time. With that in mind, Igwebuike figures to remain a key focus for Cignetti and company over the next several months.

Indiana was Igwebuike's first official visit of the spring, which is certainly a good sign. However, Cignetti and his staff still have a lot of work to do. Igwebuike is still slated to officially visit all of his remaining finalists, and Hoosier fans are hoping that IU left a lasting impression during his visit back on the weekend of April 17.

Igwebuike's commitment date is set for July 11.
