There is arguably no more coveted prospect out there right now than Jalen Brewster. Hailing from Cedar Hill, TX, Brewster is a 5-star defensive line prospect who is ranked as the No. 1 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.

The highly-touted recruit committed to Texas Tech last October, but he is keeping all of his options open. The Red Raiders made an offensive line coaching change over the offseason, which seems to have prompted Brewster to explore other options.

To the delight of Indiana football fans, the Hoosiers are among the teams looking to flip the No. 1 overall prospect away from Lubbock. Curt Cignetti's pursuit of Brewster took a big step forward last weekend when the 6'3" 302 defensive lineman took an official visit to Bloomington.

5-star DL Jalen Brewster takes an official visit to Indiana

It wasn't Brewster's first time in Bloomington, as Cignetti and his staff have been eyeing him for a while. In fact, Brewster was on campus several times last year, including on September 20 when Indiana routed Illinois 63-10.

Brewster had the Hoosiers listed as a finalist before he committed to Texas Tech last fall, and Cignetti and company appear to be pulling out all the stops to officially land him in Bloomington.

Brewster has ties to The Hoosier State, as his father played football at Ball State from 2005-08 and his mother is from Indianapolis. He still has family in the Indianapolis area, and Cignetti is looking to use that bit of home field advantage in his flip efforts.

Indiana has taken major strides since Brewster committed to Texas Tech

After his visit, Brewster told Rivals, "You can tell it’s all business.” That's the kind of culture Cignetti has built in Bloomington, and something that top prospects like Brewster are taking note of.

The IU football program has taken major strides since Brewster's commitment to Texas Tech. The Hoosiers orchestrated a perfect 16-0 season that culminated in a historic College Football Playoff National Championship. That kind of pedigree speaks for itself.

Furthermore, Indiana recently set a program record by having eight players selected in the 2026 NFL Draft. They also had two players (QB Fernando Mendoza and WR Omar Cooper Jr.) selected in the first round of the same NFL Draft for the first time ever.

There is still work to do be done, but luring Brewster away from Texas Tech would be a blockbuster flip for Cignetti and the Hoosiers.
