The month of May is a pivotal recruiting period in college football, and Curt Cignetti made sure to make the most of it.

Indiana entered May with just four players in its 2027 recruiting class, and after the decommitment of prized 4-star CB Monsanna Tobert Jr, things were looking a little bleak. But Cignetti and company have responded in a big way by securing commitments from six players over the last three and a half weeks.

Indiana lands commitment from 2027 safety Brady Scott

Cignetti's latest commitment comes in the form of 3-star S Brady Scott, who announced his pledge to Indiana on Sunday afternoon. He decided to play for the Hoosiers over other offers from Iowa, Vanderbilt, Louisville, and UCLA, among others.

Josh Hoover just became one of college football's most intriguing breakout candidates

Scott is a 6'0" 195-pound defensive back who hails from Reading, MA. He is ranked as the No. 4 player in the state of Massachusetts and the No. 44 safety in the country according to On3.

He took an official visit to Indiana at the end of April, and he was scheduled to take an official visit to Louisville this weekend. However, he chose not to attend.

Scott is Indiana's ninth commit for the 2027 class, and he joins 3-star prospect Rico Jackson as the second safety commit for the Hoosiers.

Commitment from Brady Scott continues Indiana's recruiting momentum

At the beginning of the month, Indiana's recruiting class was ranked as the No. 52 class in the country according to 247Sports. But Cignetti's strong month has IU moving up the national recruiting rankings. Now, Indiana is ranked as the No. 36 recruiting class in the country for 2027. As the pivotal recruiting period moves into June, Cignetti and the Hoosiers will be looking to continue moving up in the rankings.

Cignetti's current 2027 class features just 4-star players in EDGE Myles Smith and OT Mason McDermott. Both of IU's decommitments in the 2027 class were 4-star prospects in WR Ja'Hyde Brown and CB Monsanna Torbert Jr. However, Cignetti has shown that he doesn't need a roster full of blue chip prospects in order to find elite success.

Indiana will be front and center of the college football world when the season starts

Cignetti led Indiana to its best season in school history and took the college football world by storm with a roster full of under-recruited and under-the-radar players. When it comes to both high school recruiting and the transfer portal, Cignetti has shown that he has an elite eye for talent and an effective system in place to make that talent shine.

Not many college football fans would have expected Cignetti's tenure at Indiana to be as successful as it has. But now it's clear that the Hoosiers have plenty of staying power with Cignetti at the helm. After a strong month of May on the recruiting trail, Hoosier football fans are hoping that Indiana's recruiting momentum can carry over into June as well.
