There's no shortage of bad blood in the rivalry between Indiana and Purdue. The in-state rivalry continues to see little love lost from either side, and the latest chapter has garnered plenty of attention over the last week. Instead of taking place on the field or court, this time the tension played out at the podium.
Last week during his introductory press conference, new Purdue athletic director Tommy McClelland took a not-so-subtle shot at the Hoosiers. "We are here to win championships," said the new Boilermaker AD. "If you don't want to win championships, go to Indiana."
Needless to say, the comment came across as extremely tone deaf and missed the mark in extreme fashion. Coming off a perfect 16-0 season and national title, the Indiana Hoosiers are the reigning champs of the college football world. Meanwhile, Purdue has never won a national title in football and is coming off back-to-back 0-9 seasons in the Big Ten.

McClelland's comments immediately went viral on social media and even had Purdue fans embarrassed. The Purdue athletic department then had to go into damage control mode, but there wasn't much to be done.
So what does Cignetti think about all of this? Well, he had the perfect Cignetti-esque quote when asked about it on Monday.

Speaking with the media following Monday's practice, Cignetti was asked if he had any comments in response to McClelland's remarks. The Hoosier head coach had a simple response.
"No, not really."

It's the perfect response from Cignetti.
It's clear that Cignetti isn't concerned about McClelland's shot at Indiana, and that he has bigger things to focus on right now. In Bloomington, Cignetti is looking to lead the Hoosiers to a third straight College Football Playoff appearance and compete for another national title. Up in West Lafayette, the Boilermakers are looking to just win their first Big Ten conference game in three years.

With that being said, Cignetti undoubtedly heard what McClelland had to say. And if we know Coach Cig the way we think we do, he may just have those comments in mind when the Hoosiers and Boilermakers meet later this fall on November 28.
Cignetti has made light work of Purdue during his first two seasons at Indiana. In Year 1, Indiana defeated Purdue 66-0. Ouch. In Year 2, the Hoosiers took down the Boilermakers 56-3. Yikes. That means that Cignetti and the Hoosiers have out-scored the Boilermakers by a combined score of 122-3.
After what McClelland had to say, Cignetti might try to hang 100 on the Boilermakers in this season's meeting for the Old Oaken Bucket. Don't poke the bear.
