Who would have thought that in 2026, the media would be talking about elite transfer portal players wanting to go to Indiana, of all places, to play football? Well, that is what is called the Curt Cignetti effect in Bloomington.
The Hoosiers' 2025 football season is not over yet as Indiana is set to face Oregon on Friday, January 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Quarterfinal of the College Football Playoff. That doesn't seem to matter for Cignetti, though, as he is able to split his attention enough to work on the Hoosiers roster for next season.
According to Hayes Fawcett with Rivals, Indiana has just landed one of the most wanted wide receivers in the transfer portal. Former Michigan State receiver Nick Marsh has reportedly committed to Indiana for the 2026 football season.

Marsh was a highly sought-after receiver in the portal, and according to FanSided's Saturday Blitz, he was the second-ranked receiver in the portal. While his season stats may not jump off the sheet, it should also be noted that the team he was once playing on.
Michigan State has not had a quality offense in years, but Marsh was still able to rack up over 600 receiving yards in both seasons in East Lansing. In two seasons, Marsh had 1,311 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.
While the Hoosiers won't have Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza next season, it has been predicted that Cignetti will land another top transfer, Josh Hoover, out of TCU. Hoover is another top-ranked quarterback in the portal, according to Saturday Blitz.
If Indiana goes on to win it all next season, it is clear Cignetti is already thinking of a repeat in 2026 with the work he is already doing in the portal. Marsh is a huge get for the Hoosiers going into the offseason soon, and under Cignetti, who knows how big a step he could take?
