Indiana has never been known as a football school. Being in what is often called "The Hoosier State," most known for basketball, the Hoosiers have always been a school that excelled on the hardwood. Now, it seems like things are changing with Curt Cignetti in town.
The Indiana head coach has come in and, in two seasons, done things that have never been done in over a 100 years on the football field in Bloomington. The program that Cignetti took over just two years ago was so bad that the Hoosiers held the record for the most losses by a program in college football history.
Who would have thought that Indiana would now be heading to the Semifinal of the College Football Playoff and just one win away from the National Championship?
Indiana just took out one of the winningest football programs ever
Indiana and Alabama are two very different football programs. The Crimson Tide has a rich history of winning, success, and National Championships. Alabama actually has the third-most wins in college football history.
Indiana has finally come out of the basement and no longer holds the record for the most losses ever by a college football program. Now they sit in the second-most spot, but they aren't planning to take back that record anytime soon.
With the win against Alabama in the Rose Bowl, Indiana proved that history truly has been rewritten, as they were in no way supposed to be in this spot. They have the Heisman Trophy winner on their team, the National Coach of the Year leading the way, and the best record in football.
If anyone had thought that this was possible by 2026, some would have laughed, but Indiana has now proven that it doesn't matter how great you have been; it matters how great you are now.
