The Cignetti name is football royalty. Curt’s dad, Frank Cignetti Sr., was a legendary coach at West Virginia and Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Frank Cignetti Jr, was a graduate assistant at Pitt starting in 1989 then returned to his alma mater IUP, working under his father, Frank Cignetti Sr, for the next nine seasons. He started as the wide receivers coach, spent time at defensive backs coach and was elevated to quarterbacks and offensive coordinator.
The Cignetti family led IUP to four semifinals appearances and to the Division II National Championship in 1990 and 1993, losing both times over that span.
In 1999 he was an offensive assistant for the Kansas City Chiefs and also spent 2000 and 2001 as a QB coach for the New Orleans Saints.
He has bounced around from college to the NFL over the past two decades while incldued stops at Fresno State, North Carolina, Rutgers, Pittsburgh (twice), the St. Louis Rams, New York Giants, Green Bay Packers and Boston College.
Cignetti took off last season in 2024 but will return into his 36th year coaching at the collegiate or NFL level.
Good luck to Frank Cignetti Jr and our head coach at Indiana Curt Cignetti for the 2025-26 season and beyond.
