Cash Herrera de-committed from the Iowa Hawkeye's this week, and Adam Gorney of Rivals.com says he already has a Bloomington visit scheduled over the weekend.

Herrera posted this on his social media account: "First off, I would like to thank the staff at Iowa for believing in me. After long discussions with my family, I have decided to re-open my recruitment. I wish nothing but the best for the Iowa program in the future."

Herrara, who attends The Bishop's School in La Jolla, California, originally committed to the Hawkeyes in October 2024. Herrera is rated as a 3-star prospect and ranked 805th nationally in the 2026 class, according to the 247Sports Composite. He is ranked as the 46th-best quarterback in the class per 247Sports Composite

National recruiting analyst Greg Biggins wrote the following about Herrera in 2024:

"Herrera is a late bloomer at the quarterback position who generated a lot of positive buzz this past off-season. He’s a player that the more we dug into him, the more we liked. He was a standout at the SoCal Elite 11 Regional Camp back in March and showed he could hang with some of the top signal callers in the region. He has a smooth, easy delivery and the ball jumps out of his hand. He has a projectable 6-2, 185-pound frame with plenty of room to add good weight.

Outside of Iowa, he had offers from Colorado State, San Diego State, UCLA, Cal, Minnesota, Arizona, Virginia Tech and several Group of Five and Ivy League programs.

Standing at 6-foot-3, 207 pounds the rising senior quarterback threw for 2,033 yards, 24 touchdowns and five interceptions on 141-of-226 passing (62.4%). Herrera also had 334 yards rushing and eight touchdowns on the ground. As a full-time starter, he led Bishop’s to a 7-4 record, finishing 2nd in the Coastal League behind Santa Fe Christian.

The quarterback room is pretty deep overall with Fernando Mendoza, Alberto Mendoza, Tyler Cherry and Jacob Bell having multiple years remaining. Fernando Mendoza is a projected first or second round pick in this upcoming 2026 NFL Draft and senior transfer quarterback Grant Wilson could possibly return with a waiver release.
