50 years ago (yes, you read that number correctly), Indiana men's basketball secured the 1976 National Championship over the Michigan Wolverines, led by legendary head coach Bobby Knight.
In that season, the Indiana Hoosiers were undefeated on the road against Big Ten opponents, and that feat hadn't been replicated in the conference since then, until now.
None other than the Wolverines just wrapped up their road schedule against conference opponents, going undefeated and joining the 1975-76 Indiana squad in the history books.
Michigan joins '75-76 Indiana going undefeated in Big Ten road games
It's hard to deny the dominance that the Michigan squad has seen this season, going 28-2 overall and 18-1 in Big Ten play, with just one regular-season game remaining. However, the idea of comparing this Wolverines team to that of Knight's team from the mid-1970s.
Not only did the Hoosiers go undefeated against Big Ten opponents on the road, but they went undefeated all season long.
The Hoosiers cut down the nets at the National Championship after defeating Michigan 86-68, wrapping up the perfect 32-0 season.

Of course, basketball in the 1970s was a little different than what the college game looks like in the 2020s, but still. March Madness hasn't even actually started and the Wolverines already have two losses to their name.
The Big Ten Tournament still has to tip off, and then the NCAA Tournament begins, where Michigan is no longer the runaway favorite to win it all (tied with the Duke Blue Devils, who defeated the Wolverines just a couple of weeks ago).

Congrats to Michigan for having a successful season, and welcome to the semi-exclusive club of Big Ten teams that went undefeated on the road in conference play, but it's not time to start comparing the Wolverines to Bobby Knight's team quite yet.
