Earlier this week, the Indiana women's basketball program landed a commitment from 5-star prospect Azy Jackson. She is one of the most coveted recruits in the 2027 cycle, and chose Indiana over a list of contenders that included USC, Kansas, Cal, and North Carolina.

A 6'4" forward hailing from Suquamish, WA, Jackson joins an Indiana 2027 recruiting class that also features Brookeslee Colvin and Finley Parker. Here are three things to know about IUWBB's latest commit.

Azy Jackson becomes Indiana's highest-ranked commit in program history

Jackson comes to Bloomington with plenty of recruiting pedigree. Along with being a 5-star prospect, she is ranked as the No. 20 overall player in the 2027 SC Next 100. Her commitment to Indiana is a historic one, as she becomes the highest-ranked commit in Indiana women's basketball history. That gives Moren a signature recruiting victory that can hopefully lead to more success on the recruiting trail down the road.

Jackson owns a well-rounded skill set and strong versatility that allows her to make plays all over the court. She can control play in the paint while also handling the ball, and is capable of scoring off the dribble from the wing. She can also be a strong rim-protector on the defensive end.

She chose Indiana because of her relationship with the coaches

When it came to her recruiting process, Jackson made it very clear that establishing a relationship with the coaching staff was a top priority. "The most important thing for me in this recruiting journey has been discovering genuine relationships and connections," Jackson told ESPN regarding her commitment to the Hoosiers. "When it came to choosing Indiana, I really liked the small college town feel and the personal feeling of the visit. It felt genuine... and started to feel like family. And I knew, when I missed them when I was away, that it was the place I was supposed to be."

"They’re just really fun to talk to," Jackson said about the IU coaching staff. "I just also had a Zoom with them recently about how I could fit in Indiana. They pointed out things that they think I already do well and then things that they think I should improve."

Moren and her staff made Jackson a priority, and it clearly worked out in the end. Coming off an underwheling campaign that resulted in missing the NCAA Tournament, this is the kind of recruiting victory that can get the Hoosiers back on track. Jackson obviously won't be on the team for the upcoming 2026-27 season, but having a pipeline of strong incoming talent is always a good thing.

She will miss her senior season recovering from a torn ACL

Jackson is home schooled, and plays her high school basketball at Bonney Lake High School in Washington. Last season as a junior, she averaged 14.6 points and 14.8 rebounds per game. She was by the far the biggest stock riser in the class of 2027, as it wasn't long ago that she wasn't even a ranked prospect. Now she is a Top-20 recruit. But unfortunately, Jackson will miss her upcoming senior season as she recovers from a torn ACL that she suffered in July. However, she is still expected to enroll at Indiana this upcoming spring and be ready to roll for her freshman season in 2027-28.
