#5. Jalen Hood-Schifino struggles with his shot and needs to figure it out soon

In Friday’s contest against Jackson State, Hood-Schifino was 1-for-8 from the field and registered just four points. Despite his struggle to shoot the ball efficiently, the five-star freshman did manage to dish out six assists and just two turnovers in 28 minutes of action.

Through six games of his career, Hood-Schifino is shooting just 33.3 percent from the field and is averaging just 7.8 points per game in 26.8 minutes per game. His scoring and shooting have been the only real issue in his game thus far, while he’s averaging 4.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds.

Hood-Schifino’s 27 assists through six games are tied for the second-most by a Hoosier freshman in his first six career games since at least 1996-97 — tied with Rob Phinisee (27 assists in 2018-19) and trailing Yogi Ferrell (29 assists in 2012-13).

If Hood-Schifino cannot figure out his shot, Indiana basketball will not be successful this season, especially with upcoming matchups with three top 25 teams and two teams in the top 10 (Arizona and Kansas).
