A string of articles emerged from various sites yesterday regarding the recruitment of Indiana Basketball target Aminu Mohammed. Chief 247Sports analyst Brian Snow kicked it off by updating where Mohammed stands on his recruitment and Inside the Hall also ran a profile piece on the young athlete.

What we ultimately learned from all these “updates” is that there is no update. Mohammed’s recruitment has been extremely unconventional. He and his guardian (Mohammed lives in Maryland but his family lives in Nigeria) have been extremely hush-hush about almost everything related to his recruitment. Mohammed won’t even be announcing any trimmed list of top schools as is customary from high school recruits.

While the lack of self-loving promotion from a high school recruit is nice for a change, it also makes it completely ambiguous where Mohammed is going to end up. The only thing anyone can say for certain is that he is strongly considering several schools and one of those schools is Indiana. Georgetown, Louisville, Kansas State, and Maryland are in the mix as well. Anyone pretending to know where he is going to end up is bluffing.

Indiana does have a distinct advantage in Mohammed’s recruitment. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, schools that have been targeting prospects for quite some time have the upper hand. Mohammed has already been on an unofficial visit to Bloomington in January. He has been on visits to several other schools as well, but not Georgetown.

What we know for sure about the top-20 guard’s recruitment is that a decision will come sometime this Winter, likely in December. Even though no one knows how his recruitment will conclude, we do know that the Hoosiers have a pretty decent shot to wind up as his ultimate destination. That is thanks in part to Archie Miller’s superb recruiting and roster building. IU offers the best win-now chance for Mohammed and has had a long-standing relationship with him. That bodes well coming down the pipeline.
