Indiana Football: Best conference for Hoosiers outside of Big Ten
#1 – ACC
The ACC would be the best conference for the Hoosiers to go to. First, they have a rival in Louisville already in the conference and Notre Dame would also be there this year to give them some area teams to possibly play. Having an Indiana and Notre Dame game would be great and one many fans have been wanting.
The ACC does have the powerhouse Clemson in the conference, but outside of them who is there that the Hoosiers wouldn’t have a very good chance to beat? North Carolina is on the way up with Mack Brown, but Indiana could beat them. Florida State is a mess and Miami looked bad last year.
Virginia and Virginia Tech are decent but not great. Pitt would be a fun game, but not unwinnable and anyone else the Hoosiers could beat.
Travel wouldn’t be horrible especially if they split up the divisions geographically. Indiana would likely play Notre Dame, Louisville, Pitt, Boston College, Syracuse, and maybe North Carolina along with some crossover games. It would be fun to play Florida State or Miami, especially in Bloomington on a cold Saturday.
This would produce a bunch of fun games for Hoosier fans and ones they could win, along with the opportunity to upset Notre Dame. What is not to like about going to the ACC for a year?
Obviously playing in the Big Ten is the best situation and we don’t want to leave permanently but if they had the opportunity to leave for one year it has to be the ACC.
Nothing will beat the rivalries in the Big Ten, but for one year, in order to play football, this would be great. The Hoosiers get to play some different teams and the chance to show off for the East Coast and maybe open up some pipelines for recruiting.
In the end, if the Hoosiers could play football they would take the opportunity to play in any conference, but if they had the choice the ACC would be the pick.
