Indiana Football: Best conference for Hoosiers outside of Big Ten

#2 – SEC

Competition wise this wouldn’t be as bad as many think. Yes the top of the SEC is absolutely loaded, but honestly so is the Big Ten so there is a whole lot of change. Alabama, Georgia, and LSU are probably better than anyone not named Ohio State in the Big Ten, but after those three it drops off.

Auburn seems to be on an every other year run of being good and bad, and this year would be the bad year. Texas A&M is ok, but haven’t taken off under Jimbo Fisher like many thought they would. Florida is getting better and Tennessee just beat Indiana in a bowl game, but the Hoosiers showed they could play with them.

After that Indiana might be a favorite in any game they played. Plus they already have a huge rival in the conference in Kentucky. This would be a great game, especially if conference standings were hanging in the balance with it.

Travel wouldn’t be bad for the Hoosiers and almost every team is in the same time zone as Indiana. Arkansas, Missouri, and Vanderbilt are the only ones on Central time, but that is only an hour behind and it would be like traveling to the Big Ten West teams anyway.

The problem for the Hoosiers is they could get a murderous schedule by joining the SEC just like they did in the Big Ten East. The rivalry with Kentucky and a possible rematch with Tennesse put this ahead of the Big 12, but not enough to make it the top landing place for the Hoosiers.
