Indiana Football: What conference would be best for IU outside Big Ten?
By Adam Childs
The Indiana football team is not playing football this year (at least not yet), but if they could leave for one year and play football what conference would be best?
This weekend rumors started to trickle out that some teams in the Big Ten are dead set on playing football this year. If the Big Ten wasn’t going to play as a conference then they would play in a different conference for this year.
The schools that were said to have been looking at this were Ohio State, Nebraska, Iowa, and Michigan. It was said that Ilinois and Northwestern and Illinois were the only schools not looking to play. Mind you this is all just rumors, but one that was very interesting none-the-less.
It was then stated that Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren was starting to rethink the decision of canceling the season after backlash from players, coaches, and now even parents flooded social media.
Could there be some big news coming in the next couple of days or is this all just a lot of smoke for nothing? The football fan in us hopes where there is smoke, there is fire and Indiana will be one of the schools that end up playing.
While that is all just a rumor, it got us thinking. If some schools were to step outside the Big Ten for this year, what place would be best for Indiana?
There are some we can rule out right away. It would make no sense for the Hoosiers to go anywhere but a Power 5 conference, so sorry AAC, WAC, and Conference USA. You could also eliminate the PAC-12 because logistically that would just be a nightmare. Geographically it just doesn’t make sense plus they aren’t playing football either so it doesn’t even matter.
So let’s take a look at the other three big-time conferences and rank the best place for the Hoosiers.
