Indiana Hoosiers: 5 teams the Big Ten absolutely needs to consider adding
By Adam Childs
3. Pitt
Pitt is currently in the ACC but would make perfect sense to join the Big Ten. Geographically they fit well with the Big Ten conference and already have a rivel in Penn State. There were talks to get them in the Big Ten when the expansion started, but apparently the Big Ten wanted to get into the New Jersey market instead.
The Panthers are getting better in basketball and have always been competitive in football. Getting them into the conference and having them play Penn State every year would be a treat for those fan bases. While they have played a few times in recent years, it would be great to have them play every year and it be a conference game.
Pitt is part of the AAU, which the Big Ten is big on their members having. The only school not in the AAU currently is Nebraska and they just recently dropped off the list. It is important for the Big Ten as they pride themselves on having not only good athletic programs but high academic standards.
Adding Pitt really makes a lot of sense. It would solidify the Big Ten’s reach in Pennsylvania which produces a lot of great high school athletes. It also brings in a good athletic program. Plus we get to see a gorgeous set of uniforms like the one above.
