Indiana Football: Are Hoosiers a 10 win team in 2020?
By Adam Childs
Indiana Football: 10 wins has been elusive
The Hoosiers have never gotten to 10 wins and have only reached nine wins twice (1945, 1967). In fact, Indiana has only reached eights wins five times, with one coming just last year. Three of those seasons of eight wins happened in a seven-year stretch. It just doesn’t happen much for the Hoosiers.
This could be the year that finally changes that though. The Hoosiers will likely be favored in games against UConn, Western Kentucky, Ball State, Rutgers, and Maryland. Depending on how the season goes they should be favored against Illinois, Michigan State, and Purdue. If they can win all of those games they would be at eight wins.
That leaves games against Wisconsin, Penn State, Michigan, and Ohio State. Unfortunately, the last three games on that list happen in a four-game stretch and they have to travel to Wisconsin, Michigan, and Ohio State.
It won’t be easy for the Hoosiers to win any of those games but if they can pull off just one upset, they could have a nine-win regular season. We actually have already predicted that to happen a couple of weeks ago.
It isn’t out of the realm of possibility to pull off a couple of upsets and get to 10 wins for the regular season, but it will be tough. They did play Penn State tough into the fourth quarter before losing and this year they get them at home.
They have also been a thorn in the Wolverines side, could this finally be the year they break their 24 game losing streak? Ohio State is loaded again and will be really tough to play at, but if no fans are in the stands it could change every road game for the Hoosiers and help them out.
A good regular season will bring on a good but winnable bowl game and could that be the Hoosiers shot at making history? Winning a bowl game for the first time since 1991 and bringing that elusive 10 wins.
There are so many question marks heading into the season and the Hoosiers have to win every game they should for this to happen. But this looks like the best chance for the Hoosiers to get to those 10 wins that Indiana fans have never seen.
The Hoosiers are on the cusp of taking the next step in the Big Ten and country and getting to 10 wins will just solidify that. Indiana is not used to expectations for a football season so it will be interesting to see how they deal with it.
It will be tough, but we think they can do it. With a bowl win this year, the Hoosier finally reach the 10 win season.
