Indiana Basketball: Khristian Lander named junior All-American
By Alec Lasley
The lone Indiana basketball commit for the 2021 recruiting class continues to rack up honors as one of the nations best.
Indiana basketball is trying to solidify its 2020 recruiting class as Archie Miller has been adamant about wanting to add at least one more player to his already three-man class. While it looks unlikely from someone who is currently uncommitted, it could come from his 2021 recruiting class.
Khristian Lander, the nation’s top ranked point guard in 2021, has been open about wanting to join the 2020 class, and by all accounts, it looks like he will. Until he officially makes that jump, Lander continues to be lumped in with the rest of the 2021 prospects.
Because of that, Lander was included in the MaxPreps Junior All-American teams. Released earlier this week, the Indiana native was named to the Third-Team All-American team.
After averaging 23 points, six rebounds and four assists a game, Lander was joined by Caleb Furst as the lone Indiana players to be named on one of the three teams, both on the third-team.
If he makes the jump to 2020, Khristian Lander will give Archie Miller another true ball-handler that he desperately desires. Lander has the ability to play both on and off of the ball, but more importantly, adds much-needed depth to a backcourt that was extremely inconsistent and underwhelming this past year.
Making the jump to an earlier class isn’t always easy, however, and there will be growing pains. Despite that, Lander will come in and compete early and often, and could make a push for the Hoosiers’ starting lineup in the fall as well.
