The Indiana basketball freshman forward was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for his play against North Alabama and Troy.
The Big Ten Conference announced its players of the week for the week of Nov 11, and Indiana basketball freshman Trayce Jackson-Davis received the honor of Co-Freshman of the week for his play against North Alabama and Troy, sharing the honor with Michigan State big man Malik Hall.
Jackson-Davis, who continued his hot start to his freshman season, averaged 18.5 points and 11.0 rebounds in Indiana’s two wins last week. What was more impressive was his 90 percent shooting from the field (9-of-10) and 79.2 percent from the free-throw line (19-of-24).
Against Troy, most recently, Jackson-Davis had 17 points and 14 rebounds adding his second double-double of the season. He was also a perfect 6-of-6 from the field. Earlier in the week, Jackson-Davis had 20 points, eight rebounds and three blocks against North Alabama as he was 3-of-4 from the field and 14-of-15 from the line.
For the season, Jackson-Davis is averaging 14.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game while shooting 75 percent from the field and 73.3 percent from the free-throw line in 24.5 minutes per game.
Jackson-Davis, a McDonald’s All-American out of high school, came into Indiana with high expectations, and thus far the Center Grove graduate has exceeded them early in his career. Though it is against lesser competition, it’s great to see him so effective just four games into the season while most freshmen are still adjusting to the college game.
Indiana’s first big test will be on Dec 3 when Florida State comes to Assembly Hall as part of the ACC/Big Ten challenge. A roster that has eight players of 6-foot-7 and two 7-footers in their rotation will definitely challenge Jackson-Davis.
