Indiana basketball gave its outing of the season Saturday night in a matchup versus the Troy Trojans and there were very few things that went wrong.

It was tough to find a lot of bad things about the Hoosiers’ performance, as they controlled the game from the very beginning and never looked back. They welcomed back Devonte Green from a hamstring injury, who finished with six points, four assists, and two steals off of the bench. Despite not shooting well (2-of-8 from the field, 1-of-6 from three), he looked like he’s ready to step into his new role as a leader of the Indiana basketball program.

Unfortunately, Rob Phinisee missed the game with an illness, but they played just fine in his absence.

With four games under its belt, Indiana basketball is giving fans a glimpse of what to expect this season, and as of now, it projects to end very well.

The offense is firing on all cylinders, Justin Smith looks phenomenal, and the three newcomers (Trayce Jackson-Davis, Armaan Franklin, and Joey Brunk) all look like veterans. There appears to be a lot more joy and chemistry on the team than we saw last season.

There are a few takeaways that especially stood out from Saturday’s matchup. They must all be taken with a grain of salt, since Indiana hasn’t exactly been playing the toughest opponents, but there are a few themes which stick out and could potentially set the tone for when tougher matchups do take place come December.
