Indiana football head coach Tom Allen updated the injuries after week one, ahead of this Saturday’s matchup against Eastern Illinois.

The Hoosiers came into the 2019 season relatively unscathed outside of an injury here or there, but none coming to their starters. After week one, Indiana football could be getting a nice addition back to the defense, but could also be without a starter this week.

The Indiana defense was definitely a bit of a concern after Saturday’s win against Ball State, whether it was lack of communication or missed tackles. For the most part though, that is the unit that will be on the field every week.

Two players of note though were listed on the injury report ahead of week two; Cam Jones and Reese Taylor.

More from Indiana Football

While Reese Taylor missed week one with a nagging hand injury he suffered in camp, Taylor has made progress after another couple of days off, and looks to be back for this Saturday’s matchup against Eastern Illinois. Taylor made a switch from offense to defense the offseason, hoping to utilize his speed and athleticism in the secondary. In 2018, Taylor was used as a receiver mostly, and on the special teams unit as well.

Despite having depth and talent in the secondary already, that unit’s performance was underwhelming against Ball State, so any addition will help and continue to bolster the back part of the defense.

The bigger name is Cam Jones. Jones, the sophomore linebacker, appeared in 11 games last season at the ‘husky’ position in Tom Allen’s defense. This offseason, he made the switch to linebacker and had six tackles in week one.

Jones is a critical member to the linebacking core and is a versatile piece to that group. As of now, he is considered questionable with a ‘lower leg injury’ and will be ‘reevaluated’ throughout the week.

The assumption is he most likely won’t play this week, and just continue to rest him for the crucial week three matchup against Ohio State.

Again, outside of those two, the Hoosiers came away from week one pretty healthy and get back to work this Saturday at 3:30 pm EST at home.
