Starting on June 15, class of 2021 recruits are able to have open contact with college coaches and the Indiana basketball staff has already made contact with many top prospects.

June 15 is a big day for recruiting in terms of the communication a college coach and a recruit can have, and the Indiana basketball staff took full advantage of it.

Per the NCAA, June 15 marks the first day a coach can have direct phone contact with 2021 recruits. While coaches would obviously still recruit these prospects, it was all through face-to-face contact, now it can be over the phone.

So what does this all mean? Mainly not much, but there has been some good to come from it.

Indiana got off to a hot start when the clock struck midnight as they made multiple calls to many top 2021 recruits.

While already extending an offer to Terrence Clarke, he was one of the first prospects the staff reached out to, just like many other top programs. Clarke is expected to be the top overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft but has already taken a visit to Indiana and has been open about wanting to take another this season.

Aminu Mohammed, another five-star prospect, was one of the recruits that the Indiana staff reached out to. Through their communication, it is reported from Stockrisers, Mohammed will be on campus for an unofficial visit on July 1.

Another name that Indiana has reached out to is Trey Patterson. The 6-foot-7 wing is the top rated prospect in New Jersey and is another five-star to watch as his recruitment will start to heat up. Xavier was one of the first teams to offer him as the live communication period began.

With most top prospects already visiting schools whether it be because of team camps or proximity to their hometown, this open communication period gives college coaches the ability to start to really build a relationship with these recruits.

The Hoosiers have already hosted multiple 2021 prospects such as Caleb Furst, Luke Goode, Trey Kaufman, and Khristian Lander, along with Clarke, so with the open communication period now live, look for the recruitment of that class start to take off.
