Indiana Hoosiers baseball continues to cruise sweeping Big Ten opponent Northwestern. The Hoosiers have won nine of their last ten games.

Head Coach Chris Lemonis and the Indiana Hoosiers have been on an absolute tear in the last three weeks, winning nine of their last ten contests. Indiana has claimed the last four series including Middle Tennessee, Hawaii, Cincinnati, and Northwestern. This last stretch has given the Hoosiers a record of 13-8-1 (3-0), placing them third in the Big Ten Conference.

This past weekend the Hoosiers traveled to Northwestern to open up Big Ten play, and they came out hot. The series started out with a double header on Friday. Redshirt sophomore Matt Lloyd led the way and got the team going early. He hit three home runs in the first game, for a total of five RBI’s on four hits. Lloyd didn’t just stop on offense, he also came in and threw a scoreless ninth inning for the Hoosiers who won 13-9.

The Hoosiers took the second game of the doubleheader winning 6-5. Junior starting pitcher Brian Hobbie got the win and went the distance, pitching his first career complete game. Lloyd and senior outfielder Alex Krupa led the Hoosiers behind their four RBI’s and four hits. Krupa kept his hot streak going hitting his third home run of the season leading off the top of the first. Lloyd went deep for the fourth time of the day helping cap a four-run first inning for the Hoosiers.

Indiana finished the sweep of the Wildcats Sunday afternoon. Sophomore infielder Luke Miller had a solid game, and once again Matt Lloyd was a vital part of both the offense and pitching staff. Miller finished the game with three runs on four hits and an RBI. Lloyd finished with two runs, two RBI’s, and four hits. Lloyd closed out the game for the Hoosiers on the mound earning the save.

Matt Lloyd was honored with Big Ten Player of the Week and National Player of the Week.

Big Ten honors from him follow one week after teammate Alex Krupa was named Big Ten Player of the Week. Lloyd’s statistics were impressive both on offense and on the mound in the four games they played in the last week. He hit four home runs on Friday and tallied ten RBIs and six runs scored throughout the week. On the mound, Lloyd had two saves in three relief appearances. The Hoosiers hope to keep this streak going during this upcoming six-game home stand.
