Indiana will formally announce Archie Miller as their new head coach Monday. Could Miller instantly impact the Hoosiers 2017 recruiting class?
The hiring of Archie Miller has seemingly gone over well with Indiana fans this weekend. The Hoosiers will formally announce Miller as head coach on Monday at Assembly Hall. If you’re like me, you might already be thinking about the impact he could have on the 2017 recruiting class.
We found out last week that two of the three Indiana recruits asked for their release from the program after they fired head coach Tom Crean. Clifton Moore and Al Durham Jr. asking for release does not necessarily mean they don’t still play in Bloomington this fall. The two three-star recruits want Indiana’s new head coach to recruit them before committing once again. It’s not uncommon that players ask to reopen the recruiting process after a coaching change.
You can almost bet one of Archie Miller’s first tasks will be reaching out to Moore and Durham. He may even put a call into four-star recruit Jordan Tucker, who recently said he no longer had an interest in Indiana. With the recruiting process winding down coach Miller will hope to keep Moore and Durham in Bloomington.
Another interesting name that Indiana fans might want to get familiar with is Minnesota High School Player of the Year McKinley Wright IV. The three-star point guard from Champlin Park High School reacted to the news of Archie Miller leaving Dayton.

According to 247Sports, McKinley Wright is rated the No. 224 prospect in the nation for 2017. He was named to the Star Tribune’s All-Metro Team and the Star’s Player of the Year. Wright heard the news about Miller’s departure hours before his team played in the class 4A State Championship Game.
His reaction was sort of what you could expect from a player who’s coach just left the program. The question is in the following days could McKinley Wright ask for a release from Dayton? If McKinley decided to reopen recruitment Indiana should be first in line. The last true point guard Indiana recruited out of high school was Yogi Ferrell in 2012. Wright could be especially important if Clifton Moore and Al Durham decide to commit elsewhere.
Here is the video McKinley Wright made when he announced his commitment to play for Dayton.

So I guess the only real question is whether or not McKinley Wright wants to reopen his recruitment process. His ability to shoot the three and swiftly drive to the basket with authority screams Indiana point guard. We are all aboard recruiting McKinley Wright to Indiana and would hope head coach Archie Miller would him a top priority.
