The Chicago Tribune has named Indiana Women’s Basketball player Tyra Buss to their list of the top-50 high school players of all-time.
One of the greatest pipelines for college basketball has been from the state of Illinois. A wide variety of players who competed in Illinois high school basketball went on to have legendary careers professionally.
On Sunday, The Chicago Tribune published their Top 50 players in Illinois High School Basketball history. Among some of the players on that list include Derrick Rose, Kevin Garnett, Jabari Parker, Candace Parker, and Dwyane Wade. One person that stood out among these names is current Indiana Women’s Basketball player Tyra Buss.
Tyra Buss attended Mt. Carmel High School in Mt. Carmel, Illinois from 2010-2014 where she accomplished remarkable feats as an athlete. She was named two-time Ms. Illinois Basketball and holds the state record for points scored in her career (4,897).
In her senior season with Mt. Carmel she averaged 45.8 points per game, 5.5 rebounds per game, and 6.7 steals per game. She paved her way as one of the greatest high school basketball players in the state of Illinois.

The junior guard is leading Indiana in the same light. She leads the team in scoring this year, averaging 18.8 points per game including a season-high 38 points against NC State on December 1st, 2016.
Indiana Women’s Basketball received a double-bye in the Big Ten Tournament this past weekend, finishing No. 4 in the conference. They met in-state rival Purdue on Friday in which they came up short in a 66-60 loss. The Purdue Women’s Basketball team went on to play Maryland in the Big Ten Championship game.
To cap off what has been an incredible season for Tyra Buss, she was named First Team All-Big Ten for the second consecutive season. She is the first Hoosier to do so since the 2001-2002 season.
Tyra Buss even gave some tips to Actor Jesse Eisenberg as they played one-on-one at Cook Hall in February.
Tyra Buss and the Indiana Hoosiers are looking to go dancing in March despite a disappointing finish in the conference tournament. ESPN Charlie Creme’s latest Bracketology report has Indiana as one of the first four teams left out of the tournament. While this is not the end-all-be-all for tournament contention, the Hoosiers still hold out hope for the opportunity to play in the NCAA Tournament.
