We have officially had our first week of no football, college, and NFL, and well, it certainly isn't fun, but here is some good news. Spring football practices are getting ready to start, which means spring football games are just around the corner.

While these practices and games don't supplement the absence of the real football season, they at least give starving football fans something to pay attention to for about a month.

For Indiana fans, they will get their first glance at the Hoosiers at their spring game on April 18 at Memorial Stadium. Fans will get to see the bundle of new players that joined the Hoosiers this semester, including transfers such as quarterback Fernando Mendoza, wide receiver Tyler Morris, and the rest of the 22 newcomers.

However, before the spring game, the team will come together for spring practices.

When does Indiana football start spring practice?

Spring practices at Indiana start on March 21, which will be the first time the team can officially come together in pads and work on plays and conditioning. There are a few rules the NCAA has for college football when it comes to spring practice, though.

Teams can hold only 15 practices with the spring game counting as one of those practices. Only eight of those practices though can involve contact and of those eight, only three practices can involve more than 50% live contact.

Live contact practices and other contact practices are limited to two per week and cannot be consecutive practices. On days without contact, otherwise known as helmet-only days, conditions, strength training, and other skill drills can occur, but all must be without contact.

This will be the first time in years that Indiana will hold an official spring football game. Last season, Curt Cignetti's first season, the team held an open practice that fans were allowed to attend and watch.
