Two more semifinalist nominations roll in for Indiana's Fernando Mendoza

Indiana Hoosier quarterback Fernando Mendozahas been named a semifinalist for both the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award and the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award, as announced by their respective organizations on Thursday.

The Miami, Florida native is among 20 total semifinalists and 11 quarterbacks on the Walter Camp list, and he is one of 20 signal-callers to make the cut for the Davey O'Brien. These are the second and third award semifinal cutoffs for Chambliss this week alone, as he was also named a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award on Tuesday.

Mendoza's stats for the complete season are among the best of the best, he has completed 181 passes on 254 attempts with 2,342 passing yards, 26 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. He also has 56 carries, 240 rushing yards, 5 rushing TD's and has been sacked 10 times.

All that and Indiana is also ranked No. 2 in the College Football Playoff Rankings, sitting at 10-0 on the season with wins over Illinois Oregon, Penn State and Iowa.

The Hoosiers and Mendoza will look to keep building on this impressive season with a week 12 matchup against Wisconsin at noon ET Saturday on the Big Ten Network.

The Walter Camp Player of the Year will be voted on by the 136 Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors later this month. Three finalists will be announced later this month and the 59th recipient of the Walter Camp Player of Year award, along with the 136th edition of the Walter Camp All-America team, will be announced on the ESPN College Football Awards Show on Fri., Dec. 12.

The Walter Camp Player of the Year Award is the fourth-oldest college football award in the nation.

The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award is presented annually to the nation's best college quarterback and is the oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award. In 1938, O'Brien, who was a star quarterback for TCU, became the first player ever to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award in the same year. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955. 

The Davey O'Brien Foundation will announce the three finalists Tues., Nov. 25. The 2025 Davey O'Brien Award winner will be unveiled live on ESPN on Fri., Dec. 12, during The Home Depot College Football Awards.
