Beyond the obvious, the Hoosiers had a dominant run in the NCAA tournament. Most people believe this team --and the '81 squad -- would have been repeat champions had it not been for an injury to Scott May. This team remains college basketball's only undefeated National Championship team.

The Hoosiers ran roughshod through the Big Ten, save a couple of close games against Purdue and Ohio State. During the NCAA tournament, they were equally as dominant. Alabama played them close, but they dominated everyone else, winning by an average of 13.2 points per game.

Scott May was outstanding, averaging 22.6 points and 7.5 rebounds in the tournament. His frontcourt mate, Kent Benson, averaged 17 points and nine rebounds.

This team was loaded. May would be the second pick in the 1976 Draft by the Chicago Bulls. Benson went first overall the following year to the Milwaukee Bucks. Bobby Knight coached nine NBA draft picks from this roster. Quinn Buckner, Tom Abernathy, Rich Valavicius, and Bob Wilkerson were among the players drafted after their Indiana careers were over.
