The transfer portal is often unkind to football fans. It is challenging when players leave and have success elsewhere. In today's market, with the transfer portal, it is challenging to keep players. Attrition happens when coaches leave. However, some departures hurt more than others. Here is a list of transfers that hurt Indiana football fans.

There are more quarterbacks on this list than any other position for obvious reasons. Also, many of the transfers on this list are recent. While it may yet to be seen how these outgoing players hurt IU or help their current programs, lack of depth hurts any program.

Honorable Mentions: Kane Womack and Kalen DeBoer

Okay, so these aren't players, but their departures hurt Indiana football. Football sustainability hasn't been a thing in Bloomington, but it looked like Tom Allen had the program trending in that direction. However, the offense was never the same after Kalen DeBoer took the head coaching job at Fresno State.

The defense remained solid, despite issues with the offense. However, that changed when defensive coordinator Kane Womack took over the South Alabama football program. One of the challenges for any head coach is the ability to deal with coaching turnover. Allen didn't deal with that well, and DeBoer and Womack were two of his biggest losses.
