Indiana running back Trent Howland has decided to re-enter the transfer portal when the spring window opens on April 15th:
This is the second time Howland will enter the portal. He entered the portal in November. He was committed to Minnesota but returned to Indiana football after Curt Cignetti's hiring. Howland rushed for 386 yards and two touchdowns in three seasons at Indiana.
A Crowded Running Back Room
Howland found himself in a crowded and improved running back room. The Hoosiers had seven scholarship running backs on its roster entering spring. Howland and redshirt junior David Holloman were returning from last year's team. Cignetti and his offensive staff added five transfers to the roster.
Justice Ellison (Wake Forest), Ty Son Lawson (James Madison), and Elijah Green (North Carolina) are among the new faces in the Hoosiers' running back room. With five transfers and incoming freshman Khobie Martin committed, there was no room for Howland.
More Indiana Football
Howland did not play much during his first two years in Bloomington. He broke out last season, rushing for 354 yards and two touchdowns last season. When starting running back Josh Henderson was injured, Howland took full advantage of the opportunity. His departure leaves Hollowman as the only returning Hoosier running back on scholarship.
