Indiana Football: Five Best Running Backs in School History
By Dante Pryor
Anthony Thompson
Just to put some perspective on Anthony Thompson's career: he is 25th all-time on the NCAA career rushing list. He'd be higher if his numbers from his three bowl game appearances were included. Thompson is not only the best running back (or player) in school history, but he had one of the best careers in NCAA history.
The four years Thompson was on campus were four of the best seasons in school history. Indiana went to three bowl games, won eight games twice, and had only one losing season. Terre Haute native Anthony Thompson was a big reason for that.
Thompson was solid his first two seasons in Bloomington, rushing for 947 yards in his second season. His last two years are what put him and Indiana on the map. Thompson rushed for over 3,200 yards and an astounding 48 touchdowns in his last two seasons. His career touchdown record (65) stood for nearly a decade until Ricky Williams broke it in 1998.
