There is so much to unpack here. Let's begin in the preseason. Indiana came off a solid 22-23 season, finishing 23-12 and appearing in the NCAA tournament. However, the Hoosiers lost all-time leading scorer Trayce Jackson-Davis and guard Jalen Hood-Schifino. Couple that with seniors Miller Kopp and Race Thompson, and Woodson began this year having to replace four of five starters.

While Woodson and his staff did not find a replacement for Hood-Schifino, they signed Kel'el Ware via the transfer portal, convinced Mackenzie Mgbako to leave Duke at the altar, and had point guard Xavier Johnson returning to lead Hoosiers.

Many pundits had Indiana finishing either in the middle or the bottom half of the conference.
