Indiana football has added its first post-spring game transfer to the roster. James Madison defensive lineman Tyrique Tucker has committed to the Hoosiers. The Norfolk, Virginia native was visiting Indiana over the weekend.
Tucker played in 13 games in 2023, with five starts on the Dukes' defensive line. As a redshirt freshman last fall, Tucker recorded 29 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, three quarterbacks, the Dukes' defensive line, hurries, and 1.5 sacks. He redshirted as a true freshman.

How he fits:
Tucker was a rotational player at James Madison and figures to fill a similar role at IU. Indiana lost a lot of defensive line depth because of the transfer portal, and Tucker can come in and give them solid snaps either at defensive tackle or at the nose.
Since he's coming from James Madison, Tucker understands defensive coordinator Bryant Haines' scheme. Tucker understands his responsibilities and where he needs to be in the defense. Tucker is undersized at 6-foot-0 and 295 pounds but proved to be effective when he got the opportunity with the Dukes.
Tucker is the 11th JMU player to follow Cignetti to Bloomington and the third defensive lineman. He joins defensive linemen James Carpenter and Mikail Kamara in the trenches for the Hoosiers.
