Four-star safety Byron Baldwin verbally committed to Indiana football back in April but has now backed off his pledge to Curt Cignetti and the Hoosiers according to Hayes Fawcett of On3.

Baldwin was the top prospect in IU's 2025 recruiting class, the Maryland native is the No. 188 overall prospect and No. 17 safety in the 2025 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

Byron Baldwin is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound safety from St. Frances Academy in Baltimore (MD) who currently has Colorado, Minnesota, Missouri UCLA and Penn State at the top of his new list of contenders according to Fawcett's report.

Baldwin is coming off a strong junior year at St. Frances, with 89 tackles, 4 pass breakups, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles, per 247Sports. He also participates in track and field — mainly in triple jump, with a personal record of 40 feet last year — and he said that’s helped him improve his running and jumping ability on the football field.

It'll be intersting to see where the top saferty lands before Decemeber rolls around, there is still a small chance that Indiana will still be a contender and land Baldwin on National Signing Day but this seems unlikely.  Indiana is currently ranked No. 54 nationally and No. 15 in the Big Ten according to On3.
