Earlier this month Hood-Schifino was trade to the Utah Jazz from the L.A Lakers in the Luka Doncic, Anthony Davis trade. The former Hoosiers star was then waived by the Utah Jazz just two weeks later.
Previously, Hood-Schifino was selected 17th overall in the 2024 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. The former first round pick played most of his rookie year in the G-League for the South Bay Lakers. Hood-Schifino averaged 22.0 points, 5.3 assists, and 4.7 rebounds while shooting 47 percent from the field in the G-Leaugue but struggled to get minutes in the NBA.
Jalen Hood-Schifinoappeared in just 25 games averaging 1.7 points, 0.6 points, and 0.4 assists in 5.3 minutes per game with Los Angeles in 2024-25.
The scouting report on Jalen Hood-Schifino was positive when coming out of college and he was looked at as a promising project that could develop into a potential high end role player or starter.
Via ESPN's Jonathan Givony on February 4, 2023:"Jalen Hood-Schifino has looked like one of college basketball's most talented freshmen at times; a 6-5 PG with dynamic shot-making, live-ball passing and significant defensive versatility thanks to his strong tools and 6'10 wingspan."
The Sixers will have to waive either Jeff Dowtin Jr., David Roddy, or Alex Reese as those three currently on all three of Philadelphia's two-way slots. It remains to be seen what the corresponding move will be to make room for Hood-Schifino according to the Sixers Wire via USA Today SMG
