Losing to Northwestern is nothing new for Mike Woodson, but it is for Indiana

Indiana hasn't lost to Northwestern this much in 110 years.

Since being hired as the Indiana head coach back in March of 2021, Mike Woodson has faced Northwestern five times. Indiana, in that time span, has lost to Northwestern five times. The last time the Hoosier lost five straight times to Northwestern was in 1913 through 1915, 110 years ago.

The craziest thing is that Indiana has actually been very successful historically against Northwestern, with a 119-58 record against the Wildcats. However, Northwestern has been able to make up. bit of ground against the Hoosiers in the last four years.

Northwestern fans in the stand last night had signs that suggested that Indiana should extend Woodson because they are loving this win streak against the Hoosiers. Woodson just doesn't seem to know the formula of how to get past the Wildcats, and when asked about it, he didn't have much to say.

"I can’t go back in the past," Woodson said in his press conference. "The bottom line is we were playing well enough to win the game today, and we just didn’t answer the bell in the second half. We gotta figure that out going back home."

This season, Indiana only had to face Northwestern once instead of twice, especially with the addition of Oregon, Washington, USC, and UCLA to the Big Ten this season. If anything Woodson may be happy to see that he won't have to face the Wildcats this season.

Clearly, Northwester must be in Woodson's head because five times in a row and never getting a win against a team is not typically normal. During this five-game win streak, Indiana has given up 70 points or more to the Wildcats, which makes it tough to get a win, especially with the poor shooting Indiana has had in the past few years.
