Before today's matchup against the Oregon Ducks in the Second Round of the Big Ten WBB Tournament, the Indiana Hoosiers were 8-0 when scoring 10 or more 3-pointers in a game. Today against the Ducks, the Hoosiers scored 11 3-pointers, so can you guess who got the win?
That is right; the Indiana Hoosiers walked away with a 78-62 win over the Ducks today as they made 11 3-pointers against the Ducks, with guard Shay Ciezki hitting three of them and Yarden Garzon hitting four of them.
Ciezki was the hot hand at the beginning of the game, hitting her third three 3-pointers for the Hoosiers and finishing the first half with 15 points. With Garzon in early foul trouble and Sydney Parrish having an off-day shooting, the Hoosiers were getting deep into their bench, but it was the starters that still found ways to get it done.
Indiana had four of their five starters in double digits today, with Karoline Striplin only one shot away from double digits, but again, thanks to foul trouble, she was on the bench more than she would have been. Even with the foul trouble, Garzon was the leading scorer for the Hoosiers with 18 points, followed closely by Ciezki with 17 points.
Towards the end of the first half and into the second half, head coach Teri Moren was visibly angry and talking to any of the refs who would listen to her about the uneven calls when it came to fouls. At the end of the game, it looked like it was called fair, with Indiana being whistled for 19 fouls and Oregon having 18 called. However, that came from Oregon fouling a lot at the end with a last-ditch effort to gain ground, but also the refs finally starting to take control of the game.
It didn't matter, though, how many of the refs called on Indiana, the Hoosiers continued to find ways to score. Whether it was from deep because Oregon wasn't rotating in help, or it was the Ducks spreading out their defense too much, leaving the paint wide open, Indiana just continued to find ways to score.
Indiana won't have much time to enjoy this win as they quickly will need to turn around and face the No. 1 seed USC Trojans tomorrow in the early matchup yet against at Noon EST.
