Although it is probably not going to happen for Darian DeVries' Indiana Hoosiers, but they are still technically in the mix to land Jordan Smith Jr.'s five-star commitment. IU is one of six finalists to land the combo guard out of Fairfax, Virginia on Friday the 13th. Smith is one of the prized prospects still out there to be had in the 2026 recruiting cycle. Wherever he decides to go will have a ripple effect.
Joe Tipton of On3/Rivals shared that Smith will choose between these six teams on Friday, Feb. 13.

Smith will be choosing between Arkansas, Duke, Georgetown, Indiana, Kentucky, and Syracuse. The presumptive favorite to land him is Arkansas, who he has been crystal balled to four times by the 247Sports staff. According to the 247Sports Composite, Smith is the No. 1 player from Virginia, the No. 1 combo guard in the country, and the No. 3 prospect in the 2026 high school recruiting class.
Of the six places where Smith may conceivably sign on Friday, let's break down each one's likelihood.
Indiana Hoosiers are the ultimate dark horse in play for Jordan Smith Jr.
When looking at Smith's recruiting profile, Arkansas and Duke seem like the two teams vying for his commitment the most. Arkansas is widely seen as the favorite, with Duke seen as the next best team. After that, Georgetown and Syracuse appear to be in that next cluster of teams. With Georgetown being his "hometown" team, maybe the Hoyas have more than a prayer to land Smith in this cycle?
After Arkansas, Duke, Georgetown, and Syracuse, in probably that order, Indiana might have the fifth-best shot to land Smith because while the Hoosiers did not get him in for an official visit, it may have worked against Kentucky in some ways. Outside of Arkansas, Duke, and Kentucky, the only other team that got a visit out of him was Louisville. The Cardinals are nowhere to be found in his decision.
So what this means for IU is that while they really have no shot of landing Smith, the fact they are even in contention for him this late in the game shows how much respect DeVries is garnering in the coaching community and on the recruiting trails. They are seeing firsthand what he is doing with a transfer portal player in Lamar Wilkerson. Players will be committing soon, but IU is on the come up.
With Arkansas being an overwhelming favorite to land him, anything but that will be a huge surprise.
