The Indiana Hoosiers football program has rose to their highest ranking in program history once more in both the Associated Press Poll and the US LBM Coaches Poll as they now sit as the No. 2 team in the country.

Indiana beat Michigan State 38-13 on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium for their annual homecoming game in front of a sold out crowd in Bloomington.

Indiana took the No. 2 spot from the Miami Hurricanes, who lost Friday night at home to now-No. 19 Louisville.

Ohio State is the consensus No. 1 team in the latest Associated Press and Coaches Poll.  If both Indiana and Ohio State win out their remaining games they would play a No. 1 vs. No. 2 Big Ten Championship game in Indianapolis in early December and both be locks for the College Football Playoffs.

""Personally, and I know a lot of my teammates can attest to this, although it's great that we have a super high ranking at the moment, the rankings don't matter until the College Football Playoff picture comes out, Or they don't matter until they're actually put in place for the College Football Playoff.""
Fernando Mendoza

Mendoza went 24-for-28 passing for 332 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions against Michigan State on Saturday and has cemented himself as the Heisman frontrunner.

Indiana and Mendoza do not play a current ranked team the rest of the 2025-26 regular season. The remaining teams on Indiana's schedule are Maryland, Penn State, Wisconsin and Purdue.

Other ranked Big Ten schools include: No. 6 Oregon, No. 23 Illinois and No. 24 Michigan.  USC, Iowa, Washington and Northwestern are all others receiving votes.
