The Maxwell Football Club and Walter Camp Football Foundation each have named Indiana defensive end Mikail Kamara its National Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. Kamara was named the multiple award winner after his dominate game at Michigan State helping Indiana to a 9-0 start to the season for the first time in program history.
Kamara had seven tackles, including 4.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks in a 47-10 win at Michigan State last Saturday.
Kamara was the second Indiana player to win a National Defensive Player of the Week honor in the last two weeks. D’Angelo Ponds was also honored last week after his two-interception performance in a win over Washington.
According to Pro Football Focus, Kamara is the highest-rated defender on Indiana’s team with an overall score of 89.9 by PFF’s graders over the course of the season.
The Maxwell Football Club was founded in 1935 and is the oldest football organization of its kind in America. The Club recognizes excellence in performance at the high school, collegiate and professional levels of the game.
The Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Football Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. It is the nation's longest running Player of Week award.
