Indiana has officially released their 2025 roster, including all the players they signed as high school recruits joining the program next season and all the players brought in through the transfer portal. However, when the roster was released, there were a few notable names missing from the list.
It has been announced that starting cornerback Jamier Johnson is no longer with the Indiana football program, according to 247Sports. Johnson has not officially entered his name into the transfer portal and will most likely have to wait for the spring window to open, but that is what he is expected to do now that he is no longer with Curt Cignetti's program.
Johnson played in 12 games this season for Indiana, starting 10 of those games and ending the season with 35 total tackles, 25 solo tackles, and one interception. This was by far Johnson's best season in his college career after spending his first two seasons with the Texas Longhorns before transferring to Indiana in 2023.
Johnson should have only one year of eligibility left when he inevitably enters the transfer portal. Johnson wasn't the only player missing from the roster, though, as redshirt freshman cornerback Josh Philostin and senior offensive lineman Cooper Jones were also missing. Philostin also has plans to enter the transfer portal, and Jones will not return to the team after the 2024 season.
The only other notable name not on the roster was quarterback Tyler Cherry, who will miss the entire 2025 season due to an injury he sustained before the Hoosiers took on Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff. He will be a student coach for the Hoosiers next season and is listed as such on the roster.
Indiana was fortunate to retain All-American corner D'Angelo Ponds in the offseason and added two top corners out of the transfer portal, bringing in Ryland Gandy out of Pitt and Amariyun Knighten out of Northern Illinois. So Indiana should be set in their secondary, even with Johnson choosing to leave the program.
