It may be Halloween season filled with treats as well as tricks, but Curt Cignetti and the Hoosiers wouldn't fall for the trap that was UCLA. Coming off some big wins as of late, the Hoosiers have been riding high, being 7-0 for the second year in a row, and the Bruins were hoping to come in a ruin that. Instead, the Hoosiers ruined UCLA's three-game win streak as they took down the Bruins 56-6 to move to 8-0 for the second season in a row.
This is just the second time in program history that Indiana has been 8-0 and it certainly was a game that the Hoosiers had in hand early. The Indiana offense could have completely stopped playing after the first quarter, and the Hoosiers still would have beaten the Bruins.
After some frustrations on offense last week, the Indiana offense came back roaring, putting up 56 points, scoring on all but three drives in the game. The two drives the offense wasn't able to find the end zone. One was an interception on the first drive, where one of Fernando Mendoza's passes was tipped. The other was a punt in the second half when the game was already in hand.
Indiana's defense, however, was the real MVP of this game, holding the Bruins to just six points. The defense was all over UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava, completely stalling him in the backfield. Before the end of the first quarter, Iamaleava only had one completion for 13 yards, two sacks, and a pick-six.
In the end, the Indiana defense finished with six tackles for a loss, six passes defended, three sacks, and two interceptions.
Fernando Mendoza is pulled before end of the third quarter for brother Alberto Mendoza
Heisman candidate Fernando Mendoza was terrific for the Hoosiers despite the early interception. The Cal transfer finished the game 15-for-22 with 168 yards, three passing touchdowns, and one rushing touchdown. The best thing about his stat line is that he did all of that in just three quarters.
Indiana was ahead by so much in the third quarter, Cignetti made the decision to pull Mendoza for his brother, Alberto Mendoza. The choice was amazing to see as Fernando was able to watch his brother, who is a freshman quarterback and Indiana, lead the Hoosiers' offense.
Alberto did well, even with the Hoosiers mostly running the ball, but he himself found the endzone on a four-yard touchdown run, which was set up by a huge 26-yard run two players earlier. Fernando could be seen on the sideline jumping for joy, cheering on his little brother.

Indiana moves to 8-0 on the season before they head to Maryland next week, where their quest for an undefeated season continues. The Hoosiers will get a little bit of a later start with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. EST on CBS.
