Former Indiana running back Justice Ellison took to social media on X to talk about his retirement and move to the next level. The news was first reported by Zach Osterman of the Indy Star.

"It’s always been about the journey and the love for the game. Hanging up the cleats for the clipboard." #GoHoosiers

Justice Ellison led the Indiana Hoosiers with 159 carries for 848 rushing yards and five touchdowns as a fifth-year senior in 2024.

Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti and Athletic Director Scott Dolson had nothing but high praise for the former Hoosier who spent one season at IU after four previous seasons at Wake Forest.

“He decided that he was done with football, and he wanted to coach,” Cignetti said. “He was one of our leaders last year, and Scott created the opportunity within our organization for him to help us coach as a graduate assistant or a quality control coach. So, he will help Coach (John) Miller with the running backs, and he'll do a good job.”

" Ellison is expected to be a quality control coach or graduate assistant, his position hasn't been finalized quite yet."

With Ellison as a primary running back on the team, Indiana finished the season with an 11-2 record in their best season in school history. They ended their season with a 27-17 loss to Notre Dame in the first round of the College Football Playoff.

He finished his career with 2,757 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns in five seasons, also catching 37 passes for 253 yards and 1 touchdown.

Maryland transfer Roman Hemby, UAB transfer Lee Beebe, Jr. and Kaelon Black will likely all split time and take carries replacing Ellison and Ty Son Lawton.
