Former Indiana Hoosiers Quarterback Tim Clifford passed away

Former Indiana quarterback Tim Clifford, the 1979 Big Ten MVP, died Wednesday at age 65.

Former Indiana quarterback Tim Clifford who led Indiana to their first ever bowl win in 1979 has sadly passed away at 65 years old.

Clifford was scheduled to have a triple bypass surgery on Thursday, but he passed away on Wednesday night in Cincinnati, Ohio due to heart complications. 

Clifford who was the 1979 Big Ten Most Valuable Player, helped the Hoosiers to a 38-37 victory over previously undefeated BYU in the Holiday Bowl, passing for 171 yards and a touchdown.

The former Hoosier graduated as Indiana’s all-time leader in passing yards, and he currently ranks 10th in program history in career passing yards (4,338), 10th in career attempts (631) and ninth in career passing touchdowns (31). He also lettered as a pitcher on the Indiana baseball team from 1978-80. Clifford was inducted into the Indiana Athletics Hall of Fame in 2008.

Tim Clifford was picked by the Chicago Bears in the 10th round of the 1981 NFL Draft.

Former Indiana head coach Lee Corso who coached Clifford will be in attendance at ESPN's College Gameday on Saturday morning before the Hoosiers take on Washington at Noon ET.
