The Detroit Lions are prepared to lose wide receivers coach Antwaan Randle El to the Chicago Bears, according to a report from ESPN and Adam Schefter.
Randle El is leaving the Lions to become an assistant head coach and wide receivers coach under Ben Johnson and he will join former offensive coordinator and quarterback coach Ben Johnson who left the Detroit Lions under Dan Campbell to take the Chicago Bears head coaching position last week.
Over the past four seasons, Randel-El has helped develop All-Pro Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and Kalif Raymond, and many others on the Lions roster.
Randle El played in the NFL for nine years with Pittsburgh Steelers and Washington Commanders (formerly Redskins) , winning a Super Bowl with the Steelers in 2005.
In college at Indiana, Randle El earned All-Big Ten honors in 1999, 2000 and 2001, and Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 1998. He was also an AP All-American in 2001, finishing 6th in the Heisman Trophy race.
Randle El was the first player in NCAA history to score 40 touchdowns (45) and throw for 40 touchdowns (42), first to record over 2,500 total yards in four seasons, first to pass for over 6,000 yards and rush for over 3,000 yards.
Randel El is considered one of the greatest Indiana football players of all time, certainly on the Mt. Rushmore of Hoosier football legends.
We wish he and his family the best of luck in his new gig in Chicago with the Bears in 2025 and beyond.
