Ex-Indiana and Georgia Southern QB Dexter Williams II lands starting role with Kennesaw State

Macon, Georgia native Dexter Williams II who attended Mount de Sales Academy has beat out Khalib Johnson, Davis Bryson and Lucas Sheerhorn for the starting quarterback job at Kennesaw State, he was officially named the starter today per multiple sources.

Kennesaw State kicks of the season on the road against ACC contender Wake Forest on August 29th.

The redshirt senior quarterback appeared in four games for the Indiana Hoosiers football porgram under Tom Allen where he completed 13 passes on 38 attempts for 184 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions in four seasons. The 6-foot-1, 218-pound Williams redshirted in 2020 and battled injuries with a tore his ACL in the spring of 2021.

"Takes a lot of mental toughness to do that when you know how hard it's going to be," said Tom Allen former IU head coach in October of 2023. "I just love the young man and his grit and toughness and everybody respects him on our team. And he's one that everybody just wants to see come back and do well.

Williams transferred to Georgia Southern the next offseason from Indiana, where he began the season as the third-string quarterback behind JC French and David Dallas. Williams became the predominant second-string QB with Dallas missing much of the season due to a shoulder injury.

Williams played five games in 2024 and had limited opportunities to put up numbers in 2024. Williams completed 19 of 30 passes for 248 yards and 2 touchdowns. He added 45 yards and 1 touchdown on the ground.

The Peach state grown quarterback was a three-star recruit in the 2020 class per 247Sports Williams II had a total of 2,508 yards and 29 touchdowns as a senior, completing 99-of-158 of his passes (62.7 percent) for 1,524 yards with 15 TD's. He also rushed 135 times for 984 yards (7.3 average) with 14 touchdowns on the ground.

Williams will likely have one year of eligibility remaining, with the chance for a second year if medical waivers clear. Williams had two knee surgeries in three seasons while at Indiana.

Dexter Williams II gets the chance to write a new redemption story ending to his time in Bloomington. Only this time, he's in enemy territory when Kennesaw State takes on Indiana on September 6th, at Memorial Stadium.
