ESPN Names Indiana CB D'Angelo Ponds 2nd Team All-American

Indiana defensive back D'Angelo Ponds was one of the biggest stars for the Hoosiers and in the entire nation in 2024

Indiana cornerback D'Angelo Ponds has been named an All-American once more this time by ESPN. Ponds was named a second team All-American by ESPN earlier this week and was previously was named a FWAA, CBS All-American and to the first team Big Ten All-Conference squad for the 2024 season.

The other three cornerbacks selected areย as All-Americans were Texas' Jahdae Barron (First Team), Colorado's Travis Hunter (All-Purpose, First Team), California's Nohl Williams (First Team) and Tennessee's Jermod McCoy (Second Team) .

Ponds joined Indiana prior to the 2024 season as a transfer from James Madison along with Mikal Kamara, Aiden Fisher, James Carpenter, Curt Cignetti and most of the IU coaching staff.

He's got good talent, but he's got competitive character," Cignetti said of Ponds. "He's a competitor, and he wants to be great. He's got day in, day out consistency. He does the things that help him improve on a daily basis, and that's his goal. He wants to be the best football player he can be, and he loves the process and everything that goes into that, and he's intelligent.

In 13 games this season, Ponds totaled 55 tackles, nine pass breakups, 5 tackles for loss and two interceptions.

Ponds announced thsat he will return for his senior season and return to Indiana as the Hoosiers try to avenge their first round College Football Playoff exit.
