Dusty May certainly isn't making a return to Indiana next season

The former Indiana student manager will be sticking around Ann Arbor for what seems like awhile.

Sorry, Indiana fans, Dusty May will not be making his return to the Hoosiers next season. The first-year head coach at Michigan has reached a new multiyear agreement that will keep May in Ann Arbor through 2030.

Since the announcement that head coach Mike Woodson would be stepping down at the end of the season at Indiana, there has been a lot of speculation as to who would take over the historic program. With May being an alumnus of Indiana and working with the legendary Bob Knights from 1996 to 2000, Hoosier fans hoped that May would make his great return to the Hoosiers state.

May has done a phenomenal job at Michigan since taking over after the NCAA Tournament last season. After leading FAU to a magical run in 2023 and back to the tournament in 2024, May became a big name in the coaching carousel.

Of course, as we all know, May ended up in Michigan and has since led them to a 20-6 record so far overall and is currently second in a very competitive Big Ten race.

So, with May not planning on leaving Michigan, if Indiana was fixated on. return of a beloved student manager, it is time to turn the page. The Hoosiers need to find a coach who is not only going to bring success to the program but also build it for the future.

The Hoosiers still have a ways to go until they can officially start their coaching search, as Indiana needs to finish the regular season and the Big Ten tournament. Right now, Indiana doesn't seem to be in the NCAA Tournament and is officially out of bubble watch, so their best bet at a postseason tournament will be the NIT.

Woodson will step down at the end of the season, and at that point, Indiana will be on the hunt for their next head coach. As of right now, the Hoosiers know more about who it won't be than who it will be, and we know it won't be Dusty May.
