Four-star quarterback Jameson Purcell committed on Monday morning, as he announced on his social media page via X

"Beyond excited & grateful for the opportunity to be a HOOSIER & proud to announce my commitment to Indiana University! Thx to my family, coaches & friends for the support! Cant wait to get to work with (Head coach) Cignetti, (QB coach) Chandler Whitmer and (Offensive Coordinator) Mike Shanahan"

The left handed quarterback plays high school football at Maine South in Park Ridge, Illinois. He selected the Hoosiers over offers including major schools such as: Arkansas, Auburn, California, Georgia, Miami (FL), Florida State, Florida and Texas A&M.

For a 17 year old rising junior Purcell is already polished and has effortless touch to his game. He reminds of former Michigan quarterback and Minnesota Viking J.J McCarthy as a signal-caller.

247Sports‘ Hudson Standish wrote the following scouting report on his profile:

Athletic southpaw with streamlined delivery mechanics and a confident play style who wins with timing at the first two levels and by extending action outside the pocket. Verified hovering around 6-foot-1, 190 pounds following a prolific sophomore season where he led Maine South to the third round of the IHSA 8A playoffs as a first year starter. Above-average arm talent and will hit his marks when operating on schedule to the deeper third. Creative runner who can move the chains in the designed QB run game or create for himself when the play breaks down. Quick release and ability to adjust arm slot make for a lethal combination when working quick game. Turns 18 years old in September of 2025. Should be viewed as a dynamic signal-caller with fine-tuned mechanics and a solidly built frame entering his junior season.

He's a four star recruit who is the No. 297 overall recruit in the nation, the 10th best player in the state of Illinois and the No. 20 ranked quarterback in the class of 2027 according to 247Sports Composite

Here is what QB Hit List scouting report had to say about Jameson Purcell.

"Jameson has very good size for a 2027 Dual Threat QB at 6'2" 185 pounds," QB Hit List reported. "Shows the ability to clear himself from traffic, creating open passing lanes. Good vision downfield, locking in on his target while picking apart the defense."

While this is impressive, his best quality is actually his mental fortitude.

"He’s not easily distracted by the noise around him," QB Hit List noted. "He’s a leader on the field who stays calm under pressure. Good patience as he waits for his receivers' breaks. He does a nice job picking up defense pressure."

As a sophomore in 2024, Purcell completed 197-of-280 passes (70.4%) for 2,572 yards with 30 touchdowns and just seven interceptions in 11 games of action. He also ran for two touchdowns and 151 yards.
